Second Diet of Metz 1534

From Lord Of The Craft

On the 16th of the First Seed in the year of our Lord, 1534, an assembly has been held by the Emperor to resolve the doctrinal issue between the Church of the Canon, the Reformist petitioners and the activist James Turnbull. With substantial arguments on both sides it has been decided that the ideology which James Turnbull preaches is hereby considered heresy and outlawed in the Holy Orenian Empire. He and his writings are hence considered under formal Imperial ban and condemnation. The Church of the Canon is confirmed as the religion of the Imperial state, and those who contravene this confirmation by adopting heretical beliefs shall be subject to the full force of the law.

The assembled bishops did concede that the High Pontiff and the Church of Canon are not divinely instructed and that only the Prophets of the Faith are. This concession by the Church’s representatives has led the priest Turnbull to recant his heretical writings. Furthermore, the Emperor has decreed that the Church shall only hold theological jurisdiction and hold no secular authority in Oren as he and his entrusted government alone are the singular law of the land, thereby quashing much of the Canonist Inquisition’s jurisdiction to infringe upon the rights of the Imperial nobility. Moreover, the Emperor has instructed the assembled bishops to send a representative to him to discuss the matter of establishing an Imperial Theological Court for the purposes of matters with both a secular and theological nature simultaneously, to be headed by the High Magistrate with two junior episcopal judges to instruct and aid him.

The Emperor also sees fit that Bishop Piers be stripped of his titles and henceforth be banished from the Duchy of Istria, having been found guilty in absentia of several misdemeanours against the House of Roswell and the Crown. Similarly, the Bishop of Kvaz has been found guilty and condemned to death on the crime of treason for circumventing and undermining the Emperor’s authority, laid bare in his aid in the escape of Augustus of Alsace and facilitation of an illegal trial.

IN NOMINE DEI, His Imperial Majesty John I Frederick of the House of Horen, by the Grace of GOD, Holy Orenian Emperor and rightful Emperor of Aeldin, forever August, Apostolic King in Oren, of Savoy, Westphalia, Kaedrin, Haense, Renatus and Salvus, Defender of the Faith, Grand Duke of Kaedrin, Duke of the Crownlands, Carimea, Erochland, Kingston and Leone, Margrave of Greater Kreden, Count of Felsen, Louvain, Beauclair, Wett and Metz, Sovereign of Humanity and Protector of the Elves, etcetera.
